Friz Freleng

Isadore "Friz" Freleng (1906ā€“1995), sometimes credited asĀ I. Freleng, was an AmericanĀ animator,Ā cartoonist,Ā director, andĀ producerĀ best known for his work on theĀ Looney TunesĀ andĀ Merrie MelodiesĀ series ofĀ cartoonsĀ fromĀ Warner Bros. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, includingĀ Bugs Bunny,Ā Porky Pig,Ā Tweety Bird,Ā Sylvester the cat,Ā Yosemite SamĀ (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance) andĀ Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners'Ā Termite TerraceĀ studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors,Ā having won fourĀ Academy Awards. After Warners shut down the animation studio in 1963, Freleng and business partnerĀ David H. DePatieĀ foundedĀ DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, which produced cartoons (notablyĀ The Pink Panther Show), feature film title sequences, andĀ Saturday morning cartoonsĀ through the early 1980s. The nickname "Friz" came from his friendĀ Hugh Harman, who initially nicknamed him "Congressman Frizby" after a fictional senator that was in articles in theĀ Los Angeles Examiner. Over time this shortened to "Friz".
